Before you pay anyone for speed optimization, run these free checks yourself. They take twenty minutes and they'll tell you whether you have a real problem, and roughly where it lives.
The ten checks
1. PageSpeed Insights (pagespeed.web.dev) on your homepage — mobile score is the one that matters. 2. Total page weight in DevTools' Network tab: over 3 MB is a red flag. 3. Image formats: JPEG/PNG where WebP/AVIF should be. 4. A single image over 300 KB above the fold. 5. Fonts loaded from third-party CDNs. 6. Render-blocking scripts in the head. 7. Layout shift while loading — watch the page load with fresh eyes. 8. Time to first byte over 800ms — that's a hosting problem. 9. Unused JavaScript in the Coverage tab. 10. Autoplaying video that downloads before it's visible.
If three or more of these fail, optimization will pay for itself. If they all pass, keep your money — your site is fine.
